Transport Ministry of Samara Region has approved funding for the construction of a new tramway line in Samara, one of the 11 Russian cities preparing to host the 2018 World Cup, informs the Transport Directorate. The new line will link Tashkent street to the new stadium.
The RUB 1.2 billion (EUR 16.4 million) budget was initially planned for the acquisition of rolling stock. Authorities have decided to direct the amount to the construction of tramway line and to purchase the rolling stock under an operational leasing contract.
Previously, the Ministry of Economic Development estimated the construction of a new tram line and the reconstruction of the line to the train station at RUB 12.8 billion.
The project documentation is carried out by St. Petersburg’s Transmost engineering consultancy company.
