Russian DMUs enter service in Serbia

Four of the 27 DMUs manufactured by Metrovagonmash for Serbian Railways have entered service on Belgrade-Vrsac, Zrenjanin-Kikinda and Belgrade-Zrenjanin routes.  The 120 km/h  DMUs series 711 are equipped with HVAC systems, toilets and can accommodate 246 passengers (120 sitting and 126 standing).

In October 2014,  Serbian Railways and the RZD International subsidiary of Russian Railways have signed a USD 100 million agreement for the supply of 27 Metrovagonmash DMUs, annex to the USD 800 million Russian loan.

“The deadline for the Russian loan implementation is 2017, however the deadline will be extended”, stated Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Zorana Mihajlović.  The current value of the projects implemented by Serbian Railways exceed EUR 1.5 billion, excluding Belgrade-Budapest railway line modernization, which will increase the value of railway reconstructions to EUR 2.5 billion.

By the end of 2016, Metrovagonmash will deliver another 20 train sets, with the last three DMUs scheduled for delivery in 2017.
