Russian Railways (RZD) and Estonian Railways have signed an agreement on electronic data exchange on international rail freight. The document was signed in the Estonian capital Tallinn on 27 October 2016 at the 65th meeting of the Council for Rail Transport of Members of the Commonwealth of Independent States – Participants of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
The document is a supplement to the Agreement on Electronic Data Exchange on International Rail Freight Transportation which was signed 15 September 2006.
The additional agreement takes into account the specifics of the new provisions in the regulatory framework for handling freight transportation. It will provide for the exchange not only of the data from transportation documents, but also from the supporting documents, such as the invoice, packing list and combined dispatch note and invoice).
As a result, the customs authorities will receive sufficient preliminary information so that they can process further transit declarations.
According to Oleg Belozerov, Russian Railways, together with Estonian Railways Ltd., is working on projects to implement informational support in international rail transport with the aim of ensuring the transmission of real-time data on transportation and shipping documents for the transportation of export-import freight.
