Russian Railways allocate over RUB 7 billion for upgrading and working life extension of locomotives

In 2014, Russian Railways will allocate over RUB 7 billion for upgrading and working life extension of  429 diesel and 30 electric locomotives.  

The locomotives upgrading program aims to increase their operational reliability, by equipping it with modern management and safety systemsimproving the working conditions for locomotive crews.

The decision to extend the l.ife of the locomotives was adopted on the basis of evaluation of the technical state of each particular unit, as well as comparisons of the economic feasibility of using upgraded rolling stock instead of purchasing new rolling stock.
