Russian Railways introduces mobile signature system via Sim cards

Russian Railways (RZD) and Russian telecommunications operator MegaFon  have launched a pilot project on the introduction of mobile signature system (Signum). The Signum system enables the use of electronic signature services via Sim card. The project is carried out in cooperation with NIIAS, a RZD subsidiary. Subject to the pilot projects are RZD’s branches Kuybyshev  and October Railways.

In a first phase, the new service for mobile signature of documents, including invoices, will be used by 50 logistics companies, transporting small amounts of freight and are not interested in paying annual certificates.  Megafon intents to increase the number of the companies using the system to 1,000 by the end of this year.

Russian Railways is also testing MegaFon’s service for the analysis of passenger transportation. The solution helps operators to assess the volume of passenger traffic and to get information about the routes. The service also evaluates the creditworthiness of passengers and the scope of travel (business trip, travel, personal needs).

Federal Passenger Company, RZD subsidiaryis carrying out the preparatory works for implementing the system, which could have its commercial launch next year.
