The Board of Directors at Russian Railways has approved a Comprehensive Programme of Innovative Development at the RZD Holding from 2016 to 2020.
The document was approved on 31 March 2016 and drawn up in accordance with a request from the Russian Government to further elaborate the previously existing innovative development programme of Russian Railways for 2010-2015.
“The previous programme of innovative development was mainly technological in nature, but the new one includes a full range of innovations which take into account how efficiently they are introduced,” said Oleg Belozerov, President of Russian Railways, as he opened the Board meeting.
According to Belozerov, the events envisaged in the updated programme aim at solving the main problems: the creation of highly productive jobs, increased productivity, import substitution, the development of heavy freight traffic, high-speed communication and increased safety and security.
“Without new technologies and new approaches, the future will not come any closer! The Company is therefore constantly and consistently involved in these issues. Implementing innovative projects has allowed us not only to improve the quality of our services, but also to save us considerable resources. For example, we introduced a series of innovations which have increased productivity by more than 25%. Innovation therefore gives us results with a tangible economic effect,” said the Company’s President.
