Russian Railways Logistics organized a multimodal delivery of pilot run cargo of 60m rail, produced by JSC EVRAZ Consolidated West Siberian Metallurgical Plant to Germany for Deutsche Bahn.
The cargo was transported through the territory of Russia to the port of Ust-Luga for further transshipment to rail ferry operated by Black Sea Ferry, RZD Logistics subsidiary. Delivery of cargo from Novokuznetsk to the port of Ust-Luga at a distance of 4,200 km was carried out within nine days.
From the port of Ust-Luga cargo was shipped to the port of Sassnitz in Germany, where RZD Logistics organized a long load transshipment to the standard European gauge wagons in cooperation with the European partners. The company used lifting beams, which were brought to the port from the other regions of Germany, in order to avoid damage and bending of the thin and long cargo while handling. In less than two days, the rails were delivered to the final consignee in Meckelfeld-Seevetal, Germany.
The rails delivered by RZD Logistics will be tested in the rail welding plant of Deutsche Bahn in Seevetal in accordance with the requirements of the German side. In the future, successful testing of the pilot run will allow to carry out large-scale shipments of rail cargo from Russia to Germany.
