RZD International completes modernisation of three rail sections of Corridor X in Serbia

RZD-International-completes-modernisation-of-three-rail-sections-of-Corridor-X-in-SerbiaRZD International, a subsidiary of Russian Railways, has already completed the modernisation of three northern railway sections of Corridor X in Serbia, totaling over 65 km of lines: Sopot Kosmaysky –Kovachevats (18 km), Mala Krsna – Velika Plana (29 km) and Ruma – Golubinci (18 km).

The total cost of the reconstruction for the three sections reaches USD 48.7 million.

As a result of the reconstruction, train speed has increased from 30 km/h to 120 km/h.

The reconstruction was finished ahead of the schedule established in the contract. Serbian Railways Infrastructure set a deadline for the works to be completed by February 2017.

Since March 2014, RZD International has been implementing a contract to carry out the construction and reconstruction of railway infrastructure in Serbia. The contract was concluded in the framework of an agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Serbia to provide the Republic of Serbia with a state export credit of USD 800 million. The total value of the contract worth USD 941 million.

The Trans-European Transport Corridor X connects Salzburg in Austria with Thessaloniki in Greece via Zagreb, Belgrade and Skopje. The increase in speed along the Serbian section of the corridor, which is one of the major traffic arteries in Europe, will lead to a significant increase in freight traffic passing through the territory of Serbia.
