RZD International, the international subsidiary Russian Railways (RZD), and JSC Infrastructure Railways of Serbia have signed a USD 338 million supplementary agreement to the main contract for the construction and reconstruction of the 40-km long Stara Pazova – Novi Sad rail section, part of Belgrade – Budapest railway line.
According to the document, RZD International will design & build a 3 km long double track viaduct and a new 2.2 km tunnel (Čortanovci). The value of the civil engineering works is estimated at more than USD 258 million. Construction works will begin in Q1 2017. The company will carry out the project for reconstruction, modernization and construction of the Stara Pazova – Novi Sad double track railway section and the project for the construction of a centralised traffic control center.
Following modernisation and reconstruction works, passenger and freight train speeds on Stara Pazova – Novi Sad rail section will increase to 200 km/h.
The contract was signed by Dusan Garibovic, acting director of JSC Infrastructure Railways of Serbia, and RZD International President Sergei Pavlov, at the Serbian government headquarters.
