RZD Logistics and TransContainer launched operations of their first 40-foot reefer container train from northeast China’s Dalian to Orekhovo-Moscow station, on the 8th of August 2016. The train transports fruits and vegetables (garlic, pears, pomelos).

As part of this service, RZD Logistics offers “door to door” delivery with minimal transportation time, which eliminates the need for long-term storage and transshipment of products. Containers are connected to the diesel-generator wagon in order to maintain the temperature required for the preservation of the quality of the goods.

Transport lead time via from China to Russia via Manzhouli/Zabaikalsk railway border crossing is estimated at 18 days with the aim at reducing it to 12 days. On average, it is three times shorter than sea transportation.

“The transport of perishable goods from China in reefer containers by rail uses in principle technology that previously was not available in the market due to lack of solutions and the necessary rolling stock”, said Alexander Baskakov,  Deputy Sales Director of RZD Logistics.  “For our customers the priorities are the speed of delivery and the safety of products, and the new service meets these requirements “, he added.

In addition to fruits and vegetables, chilled and frozen food, medical and pharmaceutical products could also be transported as part of this service. During winter time, the service is optimal for electronic products  requiring temperature control.
