Serbia’s national rail freight operator on the growth path

Serbia’s national rail freight operator, Srbija Kargo continues its growth trend, posting a RSD 40 million profit in Q1 2016. The profit registered last year during its first five months of activity is about RSD 103 million. Established in August 2015 Srbija Kargo’s surpassed its RSD 148 million revenue target and managed to reduce costs associated fuel and energy, maintenance and employee.

Currently, ten rail freight operators have licence on the Serbian market and Srbija Kargo is expected to experience difficult competition conditions, with all new rail operators aiming to win a part of the company’s market share.

Short transit time for freight is one of the prerequisites of efficient and cost-effective market operations, and Srbija Kargo is building its competitive advantage around it. In collaboration with border customs,  the company has managed to significantly cut down the time required for processing the transport documents in Dimitrovgrad and Subotica customs,  from ten hours to just 45 minutes. The short custom procedures will be implemented also in Sid, Preševo and Prijepolje.
