Siemens has officially inaugurated Metallostroy-2, the new maintenance depot for the heavy maintenance and repair of Velaro RUS and Desiro RUS high-speed trains, located near Saint Petersburg (Russia). At the new facility operational around-the-clock, major maintenance reviews, rolling stock commissioning and high-voltage testing are carried out.
The new depot, which sits on 10 hectares, is equipped with a smart infrastructure, four working levels are set up for the synchronous operations and simultaneous access to the trains. Service for components will also be provided, including wheels and bogies. About 100 new jobs will be created at the new facility.
The construction of Metallostroy-2 new workshop represents one of Siemens’s most important investment projects. The total volume of investment reached EUR 55 million.
“Maintenance is an important service for Siemens and we give major attention to the maintenance of trains delivered our key partner, Russian Railways “, said the president of Siemens Russia, Dietrich Moeller. “We have built the new modern plant for the seamless operation of Sapsan and Lastochka trains, a facility which will have all the necessary high-tech infrastructure. This workshop completeness the already existing service centers in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Adler, and this is the location where service for the Russian-built Lastochka trains will be provided over the next 40 years”, he added.
