Slovak Railways plans EUR 40m new freight intermodal terminal

Slovak Railways (ZSR) has launched a tender for the construction of a freight intermodal terminal in Nitra-Sever Business Park. Lužianky Intermodal Transport Terminal (TIP Lužianky) will be located in the northwestern part of the industrial park and is scheduled for commissioning in 2018. 

The new freight terminal will feature four – 700 meters and two – 750 meters long tracks. The value of the project is estimated at EUR 40 million. The project also includes the construction of a paved storage yard for freight and new rail connection betwen Lužianky railway station and the Drážovce – Lužianky railway line. 

The planned terminal capacity is 35,493 intermodal transport units (ITUs) of 20-foot-long containers.

In Nitra, Jaguar Land Rover car manufacturer plans to build a new £1bn factory and transport 80% of the car components by rail.
