The largest private rail operator in Slovakia, RegioJet has transported 3.68 million passengers in 2015. For this year the company expects an increase in the number of passengers transported by up to 30%. According to RegioJet owner, Radim Jancura, the operator runs approximately 2.6 percent of all trains in Slovakia.
Last year RegioJet registered a 19% y.o.y increase on the route Bratislava – Dunajska Streda – Komarno, to 2.34 million passengers. The increase was mainly generated by the introduction of free train transport for students. The company provides regular passenger rail transport on the line Bratislava – Dunajská Streda – Komárno following a PSO contract with the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development of the Slovak Republic signed in 2012 for a 9-year period.
On Bratislava, Žilina and Košice route the company transported about 900,000 passengers last year. Considering that this month Slovakian Railways (ZSSK) will cease operation of its InterCity (IC) trains on this route, RegioJet expects a significant transport demand growth and will increase its daily capacity with 4,000 seats in order to cover it.
