Slovakian Railways to invest EUR 332 million in modernising its network in 2016

The total volume of investments in modernising Slovakia’s rail network will amount to EUR 332 million in 2016. Rail infrastructure manager ŽSR will continue the modernisation of Dolný – Hričov – Žilina and Zlatovce – Trenčianska Teplá rail sections and will start works on Púchov – Považská Teplá, for speeds up to 160 km/h. 

In 2016, ŽSR will direct from own sources EUR 35.6 million for lines reconstruction, including rehabilitation of tracks, switches, platforms, bridges, tunnels, station buildings. By the end of this year, 22 km of lines will e reconstructed. 

According to ŽSR, the purpose of rail infrastructure modernisation projects c0-financed by EU is to increase speed and enhance safety on the lines part of TEN-T corridors.
