Slovakian Railways to purchase 16 locomotives and 17 passenger coaches

Slovakian Railways (ŽSR) has published a contract notice for the procurement of six new multi-system electric locomotives, with an option for 10 more. The value of the contract for is estimated at EUR 72 million. The units should have a power output of 6000 kW and be suitable for operations at a speed of 200 km/h. The deadline for submitting offers is the 17th of October 2014. 

ŽSR also launched a tender for the purchase of 17 passenger coaches intended for regional transport around Bratislava (Bratislava Integrated Transport). The value of the contract is estimated at EUR 31.2 million and the deadline for submitting bids is the 3rd of November 2014.

 ŽSR has a rolling stock fleet with  an average age of 22 years old and the obsolete units service on the regional lines.
