Slovenian railways: increase in passenger and cargo figures

The Slovenske železnice Group has achieved great business results in the first ten months of 2013 with EBIT and EBITDA hitting €11m and €42m, respectively, and net profit amounting to €12.32m, which is a massive improvement in comparison to the same period in 2012, when the Group was recording losses of over €700k. In the first ten months, operating revenues amounted to more than €400m and were up 11% on the same period in 2012.

The Slovenian railways transported 16.4m passengers and 17.63m tonnes of cargo last year, which marks an increase of 5.7% and 9.2%, respectively, on the year before, figures from rail operator Slovenske železnice (SŽ) show. Cargo was transported at longer distances, which is reflected in net tonne kilometers increasing by 10% to 3.89bn. The number of passenger kilometres was up by 20m on 2012 to 762m.
