SNCF has presented Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ EAD) an offer for the supply of inter-city rolling-stock. Produced between 1995-2002, the conventional inter-city rolling stock, able to reach speeds of up to 200 km/hour, was phased out gradually and replaced by new TGVs.
The decision to purchase the second hand locomotives and coaches will be taken by Bulgaria’s next government, stated the Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications, Anton Ginev. According to him, SNCF offered a very low price and the rolling stock is in a good condition.
BDZ’s most recent new rolling stock acquisition dates from 2005, when the company signed a EUR 67 million contract with Siemens for the supply of 25 Desiro multiple units.
