The third stage of the Sofia’s metro extension is now well advanced, stated the executive director of Metropolitan EAD, Stoyan Bratoev.

Lot 1 of this third phase of the major infrastructure project extends metro line between Tsarigradsko Shose Blvd to Sofia International Airport. This section is 5 km long and will have 4 metro stations. Construction is at an advanced stage.

Lot 2 has a length of 3 km and starts from Mladost I station. The last station will be Business Park Sofia in Mladost 4, stated Bratoev. Construction is expected to be completed in April 2015.

“We expect around 90,000 extra passengers that will use the line from Mladost living district and the airport. Currently Sofia metro transports between 280,000 and 300,000 passengers. With opening of these two lines next spring we will have around 380,000 passengers” said Bratoev in an interview for Focus News Agency.
