Three new competitors on Croatia’s rail freight market grab 1.3% market share

For the first time in the history of Croatian railways, in the third quarter of 2014 there were three new railway freight operators, in addition HŽ Cargo. The market share of the new entrants,  Rail Cargo Carrier Kft, Rail Transport Services (RTS) GmbH and Adria Transport d.o.o. reached to 1.3% in total train kilometers. All three operators were issued licenses and safety certificates this year. 

q3_croatiaCroatia’s rail services market recorded a 13% decrease in passengers number compared to the same quarter of 2013, while the share of rail freight traffic increased by two percent in the same period, according  Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries . Passenger and freight trains covered more than 5 million of train kilometers on the rail infrastructure, which is around 1 percent more than in the previous quarter, and eight percent less compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

Concerning the rail infrastructure access service, more than a billion of gross tonne kilometers was realized, which is slightly more compared to the previous quarter and equivalent to the same quarter of the previous year.
