Contracts to buy three new metro trains from a Russian company (the factory is located in Mytishchi) for the Minsk metro are being signed. The information was released by Rostislav Yurenya, head of the municipal enterprise Minsk Metro, at the press conference held on 25 February to highlight the modern state and development prospects of the Minsk metro system. Though the name of the supplier was not mentioned, it should be noted that Metrowagonmash and the Minsk Metro have been cooperating for nearly 25 years now with the total amount of Mytishchi cars under operation at the Minsk underground exceeding 100.
The executive specified that in March Belarus will get three trains made of 15 carriages each and in April two trains that comprise 10 carriages each will arrive. A tender has been opened to buy ten carriages. Bank loans against guarantees of the Minsk City Hall will be used to buy them.
Asked about the overall cost of the project, Rostislav Yurenya remarked that the cost of one carriage is under $1 million and depends on the options the supplier provides.
The Minsk Metro enterprise head also said that the Gomel railway carriage factory intends to supply one train for the Minsk metro in Q4 2014.
