TransAchema, a company of the concern Achema Group (AG), is ready to start operations as railway undertaking, using the public infrastructure of the state-owned company Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways).
TransAchema would become the first private rail freight operator to take part of the state railway company’s market share.
“First of all, we want to begin with cargo of AG companies, we are planning to carry AB Achema cargo to terminals of the cargo handling company KLASCO at Klaipeda port,” said Grazina Urbutiene, managing director of TransAchema.
TransAchema plans to carry up to 2 million tonnes of Achema production to Klaipeda port which, according to estimates of the company, will account for 3-4 percent of total cargo transported by Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai. Transachema owns a rolling stock park of almost 1000 railcars consisting of tank-wagons, bulk-wagons, half-wagons.
