Trenitalia selects Alstom, Hitachi and Stadler Rail for EUR 4.5 bn rolling stock contract

Trenitalia awards EUR 4.5 bn rolling stock contract to Alstom, Hitachi and Stadler RailTrenitalia announced today it has selected Alstom, Hitachi Rail Italy and Stadler Rail for the framework contract to supply up to 500 multiple units for regional transport.

The EUR 4.5 bn tender has generated interest from the largest rolling stock manufacturers on the market.  A number of 11 companies have passed the pre-qualification phase and six have submitted offers, some of them for more than one lot. The six companies are Alstom, Bombardier, Caf, Hyundai, Hitachi and Stadler Rail Italy.

Alstom was awarded Lot 1 of the framework contract which includes the supply of  up to 150 EMUs for regional services (minimum 200 seats). Hitachi Rail Italy was awarded Lot 2 on up to 300 high-capacity EMUs (minimum 450 seats).

The offer submitted by Stadler Rail Italy in Lot3 for the supply of 50 DMUs ranked first, however Trenitalia will further evaluate this offer.
