Approximately 30% of the construction works for the project “Construction of the tram line to the residential area Sykhiv (from Uhorska-V.Vernadskoho str.) on tram line 4 (including rehabilitation of underlying utilities)“, Lot 1, have been completed. Works have started in July 2014 and are carried out by the Turkish company Onur Taahhüt Taşımacılık ve Ticaret Ltd.
The project is supported by an investment grant of up to EUR 5 million from the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), EBRD loan of up to EUR 6 million and EUR 6.2 million from the city budget.
The project will allow the extension of tram route 4 (11.5 km) , which will link the main residential area of Sykhiv with Lviv’s city centre, and also a branch line to the train station. This extension to Sykhiv area, which has a population of over 150,000, is expected to increase passenger volumes on public transport by 25 per cent. The company also plans to launch a tramway modernising project next year. The journey from Sykhiv to the city centre will take approximately 25 minutes.
According to Lviv Communal Enterprise “LvivAvtoDor”, an additional EUR 3 million loan is necessary for the new electrical substation.
