Ukrainian Government plans the purchase of 11500 freight cars

Ukrainian Government plans to enlarge the rolling stock fleet of Ukrainian Railways with 11500 freight wagons.  The Minister of Infrastructure, Maxim Bourbaki and the CEO of Ukrainean Railways Boris Ostapuk had a meeting with the local rail industry suppliers in order to asses existing production capacities. 

A number of 2800 gondola rail cars and 2400 grain hoppers could be purchase in 2014. For next year,  3650 gondola rail cars and 3000 grain hoppers are also planned to be acquired

Minister Bourbaki stated that funds will also be allocated for the upgrading of locomotives and rail infrastructure, the purchase of track machinery. Approximately UAH 12.5 bn will be secured under government guarantees. In addition, the Ministry of Finance is studying the possibility to allocate UAH 1.2 bn from the state budget for the modernisation of passenger rolling stock and the acquisition of 2 interregional passenger trains manufactured by Kryukov Railway Car Building Works.
