Ukrainian Railways, Polish rolling stock manufacturer NEWAG and TOR Transport Consultants Group (ZDG TOR) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding MoU in the area of railway industry, research, testing, engineering and consultancy services.
The document triggers the possibility to prepare a 2-3 years long program for the modernization of diesel locomotives.
“Almost 80% of the goods in Ukraine are transported by rail, while the rolling stock aging level is as high as 80%, meaning that without renewal of freight locomotives fleet rail freight transport might collapse”, stated Adrian Furgalski, ZDG TOR Vice President of Economic Advisers Panel. According to him, the mou can initiate a crucial investment process for the Ukrainian transport system, since a number of 150-200 locomotives can be modernised.
“We have extensive experience in the modernisation of locomotives, for the last two years we have maintained our leading position in this segment, ” stated Zbigniew Konieczek, President NEWAG SA.
