Siemens CEO Joe Kaeser earlier announced that the company would closely follow the EU sanctions policy, the daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper reported. However, a spokesperson for Siemens’ office in Russia stated that the Russian branch of Siemens will continue to fulfill all project and contract obligations to Russian customers (Ria Novosti).
Yesterday, Ural Locomotives (Sinara Group – Siemens JV) informed it continues preparation for the mass production of Desiro RUS (also called Lastochka). Currently, the company’s priority is the production launch of Desiro RUS 001, scheduled for the 30th of May.
The first beneficiary of the Desiro RUS will be Moscow Railways. “Moscow is waiting for the first Lastochka”, said the deputy head of the Moscow Railway, Yuri Ovsyannikov, during a visit to the factory.
In 2011 Russian Railways, Sinara Group and Siemens AG signed a preliminary contract concerning the delivery of 240 Russian-produced 5-car Desiro RUS trains and the localization of its production in Verkhnyaya Pyshma. The total value of the contract is about EUR 2 bn.
The aim of “Ural locomotives” is to produce 30 5-car Desiro RUS during 2015. Initially the percentage of localization will account for 35%, and then – about 80% after execution of the contact. The contract cost will total more than 2,1 billion euros.
