Ural Locomotives starts operational testing of AC 2ES7 freight locomotive

Ural Locomotives, the Russian joint venture between Siemens and Sinara, has launched operational testing of AC 2ES7 electric freight locomotive. Until the 29th of February,  2ES7 №001 locomotive will carry out a series of test-runs in winter operating conditions on Kartaly – Magnitogorsk – Inzer railway sections of Sverdlovsk Railway network (South Urals), characterized by multiple successive ascents and descents, and maximum gradient of 17-18 ‰. 

AC 2ES7 was manufactured by Ural Locomotives in 2013. The vehicle is equipped with asynchronous traction motor and can haul 9,000 tons-trains. It is a high-powered electric locomotives with a 8.8 megawatts of propulsive capacity. The estimated energy consumption of AC 2ES7 is actually 15% to 20% lower compared to latest Russian AC electric locomotives.

In 2014, AC 2ES7 №001 received the compliance certificate of Federal Railway Transport Certification Register and successfully completed performance tests  on Gorky Railway.
