Uzbekistan Railways aims to carry out 28 investment projects worth USD 1.8 bn. During the conference on “Socio-economic results of Uzbekistan Railways in 2015 and plans for 2016“, the company announced its intentions to make USD 801.03 million investments and to attract additional USD 799.22 million.
Among the major projects foreseen for funding are the purchase of new passenger trains, the competition of Angren – Pap railway line construction with electrification of Qoqand – Andijan rail segment, the organisation high speed railway services on Samarkand – Bukhara route, the construction of new Navoi-Kanimeh-Misken railway line and the completion of electrification works on Qarshi-Termez line.
Last year, Uzbekistan Railways’ investment program included 17 projects worth USD 755.16 million. In 2015, the state-owned rail operator transported 67.7 million tons of cargo (102.5% increase compared to 2014) and 20.7 million passengers.
