Another two members of the Vossloh locomotive family platform, the four-axle G 12 and G 18, were approved for operation in Germany by the Federal German Railway Agency (EBA).
With this approval and the simultaneous series homologation Vossloh Locomotives has laid an important foundation for launching further four-axle family members. What’s more, the G 12 and G 18 are fully certified to TSI Loc&Pas— technical specifications published by the European Commission in June 2011 regarding traffic interoperability for locomotives and passenger rail cars. The specifications lay down pan-European uniform technical
requirements for locomotive homologation. The certification already covers a large portion of the requirements of each European nation albeit there are still some local ones that have to be addressed.
“With this complete certification to TSI Loc&Pas, the G 12 and G 18 are fit for tomorrow in every respect,” comments Jörg Neubauer, Management Board member of Vossloh Locomotives, “and this is something we are
particularly happy about.” Compliance with the certification requirements means that the locomotives
have series-production approval for up to December 2020, after which an extension can be applied for. For locomotives without TSI Loc&Pas certification such approval comes to an end mid-2017.
Following the good news, the G 18 locomotive is already being marketed by various customers for test operations. The locomotives will be used for heavy-duty shunting or mainline services.
