Yakunin: Political will needed for reopening Gyumri-Kars railway

President of Russian Railways (RZD), Vladimir Yakunin said today in Yerevan that South Caucasus Railways, RZD subsidiary operating the Armenian railways, is ready for resuming operations on Gyumri (Armenia) – Kars (Turkey) railway.
However, political will is lacking for activity to start.  Relations between Armenia and Turkey remain tense because of Ankara’s biased stance on Karabakh problem and its painful reaction to Armenia’s efforts to obtain worldwide recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
According to Yakunin, the infrastructure on the Armenian side is ready for reviving the railway and this was confirmed by a Turkish business delegation that visited Gyumri at the invitation of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Armenia.
