Swiss federal council has approved the sixth agreement with the national railway SBB, as part of the major Future Development of Railway Infrastructure (ZEB) project, unlocking  a new tranche of CHF 580 million for carrying out 13 railway infrastructure projects.

Half of the funding is planned for the development of four lines in Liestal railway station. In addition, on Olten – Basel railway route a new station may be constructed in Gelterkinden.

Other projects to be financed under ZEB aim to increase railway passenger transport in Thurgau and both passenger and railway freight transport in Chiasso.

ZEB programme is a continuation of Rail 2000 and will come to an end in 2025.
